< Return to Interwrite Makeover Video Contest "Tech Star"
Students are the stars in Room Nine -- especially in our student-created videos. These video projects have improved more than just the attitude of our fifth grade students; they have provided a means for them to work together, learn team skills and become support crew for each other. But with only one Mac computer (borrowed), one video camera (circa 1989) and one classroom PC, it's a challenge to give as many students as possible the opportunity for hands-on tech work. Often, we project (on a borrowed projector) the work-in-progress on the screen so students feel like they're helping the person at the keyboard. We try to be as creative as we can, especially when using technology to enhance our curriculum. While Room Nine students (and their teacher) are proud of their projects, they always wish they had more time and access so they could do more, create more, share more. More access to technology means more opportunity for learning. And best of all, we would be able to create and produce more projects using Interwrite for sharing, not only with our classmates and fellow teachers, but across the world. Hopefully, through our projects, we might inspire others to try learning in the same way. The goal is not just for students to take pride in themselves and in their school; it's for students to learn to love learning. Our digitally native students need to understand the digital world they live in and how they can make it work for them. The goal is for all students to become "Tech Stars."
